Fibers: Embroider a Patch For Your Jacket or Bag

A close-up shot of a light blue felt patch with green and yellow embroidery. The embroidery forms a flowing, script-like pattern, possibly an Arabic word or stylized design, with outlines in a brighter yellow and inner lines in shades of green and blue. The patch itself is outlined with a lighter blue stitch and is layered on top of a darker blue felt base, all resting on a light brown fabric surface.$50.00 - Please register here

In this two-part workshop, we will create hand-embroidered patches. They can be typographic or image-based, whatever represents your personality! If you don’t want to make a patch, that’s okay. I will also bring supplies to turn your embroidery into a pin.

You will learn about different embroidery supplies and the qualities of each one, how to get your design on the fabric, different stitches, and you will have time to work on your project. You will be able to bring your work home with you between the two classes. When the patches are done, you will learn how to finish it so it can be an iron-on or sewn-on patch, or a brooch.

What happens if you’re not done at 3:00? You will have the option to add on another hour of work time for $10 at the end of the classes.

Ages: recommended 12+ (Note: this process uses sharp needles and patience. Parents, please use your judgement on whether your child is mature enough. I have taught students as young as 1st grade how to hand sew, so I feel this project is more dependent on the attention span of the students. Feel free to use the contact form for any additional questions or concerns.)
